Sorry Not Sorry These Things Are Dumb by tinystalker Sorry Not Sorry These Things Are Dumb by tinystalker
I seriously don't understand why these things are so popular. Mixing animals with food has been one so much on this site it's honestly gotten really boring to me. I don't have a problem with furry/animal OCs, heck, I have quite a few of them, but come on, what's the point of mixing them with desert?!

"But they are sooo cute!" Cute=/= original or creative.

Also, they sell for such stupidly high prices. 5,000 points for a single freaking adoptable! What's even more idiotic is that PEOPLE ACTUALLY BUY THEM. That's right, real human beings throw $50 real life dollars out the window for a design of some glorified mutt covered in sprinkles or soy sauce. If there are two things I have learnt from deviantart, it's that 1: People really like feet for some reason, and 2: Weeaboos will buy ANYTHING.

If you want some adoptable with actually creativity put behind them, I suggest checking some friends of mine:
:iconrltuals: focus on the creepy and dark, great for you demon lovers out there, like this Forest Guardian adopt
:iconkuroeko-adopts: specializes in cute, colorful adoptable humans and humanoids, such as these adorable Succubus Adopts - OPEN
:icon3mbers: is a close buddy of mine with a variety of cool original species, including his crystal tooth tigers Crystal Tooth Tiger Cub Adopts
:iconhollow-dew: is new to the adoptables world but has a very interesting idea for an original species in her Tanktors - Closed Species

If I think some others that deserve mention I'll put them here.

In the meantime, it's time to put up my flame shields in preparation for the huge amount of butthurt wolfaboos in the comments :iconflameshieldplz:

Because people have money to throw at their computer screens and can't make their own original species.

Well, I have met people that are mediocre artists which have had people commission them well over $1000 for their OCs to be drawn. Which is disturbing.

$1000 could probably buy you a really nice laptop, why waste it on something as stupid as a dog covered in soy sauce.

(fuck this ended up being long, sorry about me rambling)

While I don't like Cinnadogs as much (mostly bc I'd continually fail at drawing their type of anatomy), I think Sushidogs are pretty cute. Mostly because of the art style and designs. I believe what catches peoples' eyes the most is the structure of the species' history and lore. That's usually what defines a species and makes them unique.
Like for my Nyeinstan Dires on my main, they may not look fancy but they have a lot of info to them (still don't know what to put for my Astrodogs though //r.i.p)

Also:
Weeaboos are people who are obsessed with becoming Japanese and use a chopped version of the language, such as shouting "KAWAII DESU" and shit like that. When I mean obsessed...I mean they actually full on try to become Japanese when they aren't.

Wolfaboos are people who think they are actually wolves and do crazy shit like eating in a similar style to wolves and howling at the moon "because wolves always do that" (when they actually don't).

I don't understand how you connected a closed species to Weeaboos and Wolfaboos? That's like calling me a weeaboo/wolfaboo because my art mostly consists of canines in a cartoony style, simply because I'm decent at drawing them. But that's just my view on it

____

While I do agree that mixing food designs with animals is considered "unoriginal" (along with a bunch of other things considered unoriginal) I disagree with insulting the artists' drawing styles or their designs (general statement). Species in general are fun to make, if they end up being a big hit, good for that person. They are making money they can pay bills with. I think that's why dA blew up with Closed Species, because people saw an opportunity to make a shit-ton of money so they can afford to make a decent living.

Artists tend to work for hours on their art, it should be respected even if you don't like them/their species/etc.

idk
this is just a general view on closed species and their artists
please don't shoot me ^^;

Well, I mean whatever floats your boat.  People want it, I guess they will make it a thing.  For crying out loud, pet rock was a thing in the 70's, so food animals can't be nearly as bad, right?  I don't do stuff like this though.  I stick to original, and apply my creativity through literature.

-I like creating wolf designs for existing characters or famous youtubers
-Well canines with food themes sound like a step up from pet rocks tbh xD
-Literature is fun! :D

Right?  I love that.  Besides, there is a feel to food dog.  It's just cute n' funny.  I am not like "foooooooood!" but I'm like, that'l make a decent food stand advertisement!

Yep! Pretty much. Everyone is allowed to share their opinions bc we can't be arrested for it :'D
though do realize that the terms Weeaboo and Wolfaboo are insults to hurt people's feelings intentionally (idk if you know that or not, you probably do)

On occasion, I do see a character design that is worth 50 or even 100 dollars. Also, people charge that money because they gotta pay their bills somehow.

But I do find it unsettling that some people want to own a member of a popular specie just for the sake of owning one. It's kind of like when I was in elementary school and people bought Aeropostale clothing just because it was popular. (I found their styles to be quite generic lol).

Yes, just, yes. Those two things are so dumb and stupid... And yeah, people defiantly have a bizarre foot fetish and Weaboos will hack up any money they have for overdesigned OCs branded with "fooddoge" TM.

I know, they're all the same. It drives me crazy to see these things practically buying themselves when there are some breathtaking species that people actually put effort into and probably spent weeks, if not months developing only to barely get any attention. It's like nowadays being original on a flipping art site doesn't get you anywhere.

I completely agree. It's sad (for lack of a better word) to see sushidogs and the like getting more attention than actually interesting and unique adopts.
